All hope
Mixed Media. Glass dome, animal bones, clay bowl, vegetation, vintage lace.
Carolyn Savidge 2025.
All hope
Now bound with love, in all good faith,
The task a strange assembly.
Deathly parts with memories,
relics, a dusty blur entwined.
Remains of shaggy snuffling vole,
once swallowed whole, with fur and bone.
While stranger still the mandible
an owl’s feast, seized while swooping by.
Regurgitated, cast aside.
The shrew’s skull, tuneless, ghostly now,
a twig, once lively, insect like.
Stained lace, encrusted fragile flowers
some marriage chest, has this disgorged.
How strangely still the bones and cells,
the tendrils whisp, a lock of hair.
The shard of bone, no rotting flesh
just predators remains, and waste.
All this, all hope to clay, and dust is made.
